NN007 – Change Happens

Change (noun) – the act or instance of making or becoming different.

Change is Hard

Change is a hard thing to accept

  • You need to lose weight
  • Your need to cut back your screen time
  • You need to break that bad habit

Our natural mindset is to remain in a steady state and avoid difficulty. 

Change is the opposite of that.

Change requires us to get out of our comfort zone in order to achieve the new goal we have set for ourselves.

Change happens for 3 reasons. 2 of them are a byproduct of pain…

  • Forced To
  • Decide To
  • Want To

Forced To

This form of change is the byproduct of an event happening outside of our control. Something like a:

  • Health scare
  • Job loss 

Suddenly you have no choice but to go about your daily life differently. You have no say in the matter at all. 

This is typically the only way anyone will change – and it’s only because they have no choice. 

Anytime change happens to us it comes with a certain amount of resistance

Do you think that resistance means the change will be meaningful and long lasting?

Decide To

This form of change typically happens when you are find yourself sick of your current state

You realize the path you are on is getting worse or is unsustainable. You have been through enough “stuff” to know you do not want to keep going through it.

You are so fed up that you consider changing your ways to stop repeating the “same old, same old”.

Is it less painful to stay on the path you are on or change to something different? 

At that point change may seem more attractive.

This process can be more successful than forced change. There is a lot of pain to work through along the way though.

Want To

This form of change is exactly what it sounds like. 

This form of change comes from within. You see the benefit that your future self will enjoy with a change that you make today 

  • I want to lose weight
  • I want learn to cook
  • I want a new job

This form of change is the most beneficial and long lasting because it happens as a result of your desire

The future version of yourself is pulling you in that direction

Change is the only constant in life. 

How you deal with and manage the change in your life it 100% up to you. 

And it isn’t going to go away

Change is an ever-present part of life

You can either let it happen and force you through a tough situation kicking and screaming the whole way

Or you can be the agent of change in your life and stay ahead of it

Are you going to dictate how change affects you or will you let it dictate life for you?
